Rare and Fine Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Incised Decoration, Dated "1879," attributed to Chester Webster, Randolph County, NC, 1879, ovoid jug with tooling to shoulder and spout, the front decoration with an incised flower blossom below a series of inverted drapes with diamond-shaped tassels. Shoulder decorated with the incised date, "1879." Vertical slash decoration below spout. Scalloped incising to handle terminals and dashed incising decorating the lower terminal. Impressed circular accents throughout. Outstanding, bottle-like form with tall neck. Excellent condition, difficult to find in this maker's work, with only a small spout chip. H 10".
