Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Lone Star, PA Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "IMRI TAYLOR. / LONE STAR. / PA.," surrounded by stenciled tulips and flourishes. Freehand stripes to shoulder and base. Base with stenciled "4" flanked by flourishes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Imri Taylor was a prominent hotel keeper in Lone Star (Whitely Township) in Greene County, southeast of Waynesburg. Excellent condition with some spots of staining to surface, a shallow glazed-over rim chip, and very minor surface wear. H 14 3/4".
