Cold-Painted Stoneware Dog Bank, Midwestern origin, possibly IN, fourth quarter 19th century, molded in the form of a boxer on base with black-and-white cold-painted surface and original carved slot in back in head. Underside with penned inscription, "Glenn + Helen / Hoovers Dog / Charlie / When they were / Little Girls." The owner of the bank was reportedly the daughter of one "Dr. Cox" who created a "BLISTER FOR ANIMALS" manufactured by the Hoover Linament Company in Carlisle, Indiana. An empty box of his medicine is included with this lot. Loss to ear/top of head. Losses to base. Wear to paint and surface. H (of bank) 7 3/4".
