Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "HAXSTUN OTTMAN & CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1875, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An in-the-firing iron ping to side of rim. An in-the-firing contact mark to left side of jar near base. A tiny nick to interior of rim. A small chip to underside at edge. A tiny base nick. A large circular kiln scar with shallow chipping on underside, caused from being stacked on another jar in the firing. Minor residue to surface. H 12".
