Rare One-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Incised "I. Gay," Isaac Gay, Union County, NC, circa 1870, ovoid jug with semi-squared rim, thin strap handle, and pronounced throw lines throughout, the surface covered in a salt glaze with greenish salt deposits to shoulder. Incised "I. Gay" vertically near handle. Provenance: A recently-surfaced example, which descended in the family of the consignor. Excellent condition with a shallow chip to handle. H 12 1/4".
