Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1855, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering vine with daisy and thistle-shaped blossoms. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An in-the-firing surface chip to left of decoration. A 2 1/4" Y-shaped surface line to reverse, not visible on interior. A small surface chip a few inches up from base on front. Light surface wear. H 11 1/2".
