Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "SIPE, NICHOLS & CO. / Williamsport, Pa.," circa 1875, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and wood-and-wire bail handle, decorated on the reverse with a large brushed design of a stem bearing large leaves and a graduated flower blossom. Additional floral motif to front along with brushwork at the base of the spout. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, applied clay ears, and handles at base on reverse. Large chip to top of spout and chipping to sides and bottom of spout. H 8 3/4".
