Scarce One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to David Parr, Sr., Baltimore, MD, circa 1825, cylindrical churn with footed base, flared collar, and arching tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a flowering plant featuring an unusual stylized pot at the base of each. Additional vertical floral decoration below each handle. Freehand stripe to rim. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a wavy line of cobalt below one handle. A scarce form for this maker, featuring an unusual decoration. A 1" rim chip on front of churn. A narrow 1" chip (contact mark) to reverse of rim. A 1" chip to reverse end of left handle. In-the-firing base chips, one measuring 1 3/4". A thin crack across underside, extending 1 3/4" up base. Remnants of plaster on interior. H 12 1/4".
