Scarce One-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to Collin Rhodes, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, highly-ovoid jug with tooled spout, the surface covered in a pale-green alkaline glaze; front decorated in kaolin slip with a large slip-trailed floral motif featuring wreath-shaped leaves and central blossom inscribed "1" for one gallon. Excellent size and form with crisp, bold slip-trailing, the jug surviving in exemplary condition. Provenance: A South Carolina private collection. Excellent condition with a shallow spout chip. H 10 1/2".
