Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Flowering Basket Decoration, Dated 1865, Stamped "WHITES UTICA," NY State origin, 1865, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a flowering plant surrounding the date "1865," emanating from an open-handled basket. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent condition with a small spout chip, two minuscule spout nicks, and a few, fairly innocuous in-the-firing contact marks to surface. H 17 3/4".
