Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Double Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1860, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of crossed birds with crests and long tails, perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Desirable design with strong color. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some mottling to the clay. H 13 3/4".
