Two-Gallon Coggle-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "PAUL : CUSHMANS," Albany, NY origin, circa 1810, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and coggled geometric decoration around collar, featuring the large coggled signature, "PAUL : CUSHMANS." Interestingly, as the first line of the signature is incomplete, terminating into the handle, the jar's potter has added the final letters below. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a forty year private collection. Firing crack to interior of rim, not visible on exterior. Heavy chipping to base. A firing crack to surface on underside, not visible on interior. A 7/8" flake to rim on reverse. Two minor rim chips.
