Exceptional Copper-and-Manganese-Glazed Redware Jug, Maine origin, early 19th century, highly-ovoid jug with footed base, flared spout, and applied strap handle, the surface decorated with a striking combination of manganese and copper glazes. The employment of both colors on the same jug is highly unusual, creating a beautiful work of folk expression--indeed, among the most beautifully-glazed New England redware objects we have handled. Surface wear. Two base chips. Chips to underside. H 11 1/4".
