Rare Glazed Redware Flowerpot, Stamped "W.A. LYNN," Big Hunting Creek Pottery, Mechanicstown (now Thurmont), MD, circa 1876-1881, tapered pot with semi-rounded rim and tooled accents to midsection and shoulder, the surface decorated with streaks of cream and brown and covered in a clear lead glaze. Impressed at shoulder with the mark of Big Hunting Creek Pottery owner, William Addison Lynn. The style of this flowerpot is different than most Thurmont examples, which are typically potted in the Bacher style, larger with a crimped rim. Signed Lynn flowerpots are considered scarce in their own right, and are extremely rare when found in excellent condition, as most exhibit significant exfoliation and chipping from use. This example, however, appears barely used. It is the finest-conditioned Thurmont flowerpot that we have seen. Excellent condition with some minor wear to top of rim. H 5 1/8".
