Rare Four-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Pittsburgh, PA Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jug with open strap handles at the shoulder, featuring the circular stenciled advertising, "RED BOTTOM PURE RYE / WHISKEY / SHULTIS / & / SCHOMACHER / NEW MARKET ST. / PITTSBURGH." Shoulder with freehand stripe decoration. Base with large freehand "4" flanked by graduated dashes. Cobalt highlights to upper handle terminals. A small spout chip. A crack across underside, continuing onto base area on front. Some flecks of old white paint to surface. A 7/8" salt drip and minor surface flake to reverse.
