Auction Highlight: Fall 2020 Auction | Western PA Stoneware
Rare Five-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware People Crock, Uniontown, PA origin, circa 1865, wide, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, extruded handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a brushed design of a woman holding a walking stick, standing atop a stylized ground. Decorated above with a large stem bearing three pears. Reverse impressed with a five-gallon capacity mark in the style of the Thompson Pottery of Morgantown, West Virginia, indicating a close connection between these two potting traditions. Very nice condition with some tight, in-the-firing lines to underside, a 1 1/2" rim chip, and a chip to end of one handle.
