Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN YOUNG & CO / HARRISBURG PA.," circa 1856-1858, cylindrical jug with tapered spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with multi-petaled blossom, spotted and shaded leaves, and roots emanating from its base. Slip-trailed "3" to shoulder. Impressed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Exceptional color and condition, featuring a large, finely-executed decoration. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with an in-the-firing contact mark to top of handle.
