Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Sun Face Decoration, NJ or NY State origin, early 19th century, narrow-bodied jug with footed base, tooled spout, and heavily-ribbed handle, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted medallion depicting a human face within a sun. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A 1 1/4" base chip. A shallow 1 1/8" chip to underside. Some in-the-firing separations on underside. A 2 1/4" surface line to shoulder on reverse. A faint 1 1/2" line beside base of handle. A minor 1/2" line to foot.
