Exceptional Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Trumpet Flower Decoration, Uniontown, PA origin, circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, lavishly-decorated with three brushed stems bearing groups of trumpet flowers. Large brushed-script "2" at base. The floral motifs on this jar, distinctive to Uniontown stoneware, include fingerprints to the tip of each blossom that give each a tubular, three-dimensionality. Impressed "2" on top of rim. A 7" crack on side of jar with some staining. A 1 3/8" rim chip on front. A small in-the-firing contact mark to front. Some paint and rust residue below rim.
