Unusual Rockingham Owl Pitcher, Stamped "THE OWL JUG," probably Midwestern origin, fourth quarter 19th century, large-sized, tankard-form pitcher in the form of a tree stump with owl perched within a hollow, the glazed surface decorated with splashes of reddish-brown over a yellow ground. Hand-incised below owl with the word, "HOME." Additional hand-incised details to owl, stump, and branch-form handle. Underside impressed in large letters, "THE OWL JUG." Excellent condition with a small rim chip, a minor handle nick, and a tiny nick to shoulder. H 13 1/8".
