Outstanding Five-Gallon Redware Jar with Two-Color Slip Decoration, Rochester-Genesee Valley Region, NY, circa 1840-1860, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim, decorated with two large, scrolled foliate motifs in white slip at the shoulder, between freehand manganese banding at the rim and midsection. Surface covered in a clear lead glaze over a colorful orange-and-green mottled ground. Only the second example by this maker that we have ever offered. A closely-related example was sold from the George Hammel Collection as lot 85 in Crocker Farm, Inc.'s March 5, 2011 auction. Some light wear to midsection and other minor surface wear. Otherwise excellent condition. H 15".
