Scarce Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Signed "Lanier Meaders", Cleveland, GA, circa 1970, wheel-thrown jug with hand-modeled and applied facial features with pronounced ears, nose, open mouth lacking teeth, and kaolin eyes with black pupils. Dramatic depressed treatment to sides and front of face. Surface covered in an appealing alkaline glaze featuring bluish-green streaks over a dark-red ground. Underside incised "Lanier Meaders". Excellent, as-made condition. Bottom edge with some in-the-firing residue and a few in-the-firing chips, visible when jug is turned over. H 9".
