Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Bird-on-Floral Decoration, Stamped "C.W. BRAUN / BUFFALO, NY", circa 1870, ovoid jug with thick, semi-rounded spout, decorated with a boldly-slip-trailed design of a large bird perched on the top of a flowering plant with two fences at its base. Heavy detail to bird's body and leaves of flowering plant. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. The finest Braun songbird-decorated piece that we have ever offered, featuring an unusual composition to the design. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
