Fine Anna Pottery Salt-Glazed Stoneware Railroad Pig Flask, Signed and Dated "by Anna Pottery / 1882", Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, 1882, molded flask in the form of a pig with incised details to face and hooves, hole at rear, and anatomically-correct underside, one side featuring the elaborate incised and cobalt-highlighted inscription, "St. Louis the future Great / Railroad and River Guide / Railroad and River Guide / By Anna Pottery / 1882". Remainder of pig incised with a cobalt-highlighted railroad map of the Midwest, including the following landmarks: Miss river, Grand tower, chester, alton, O & M.R.R., Springfield, Bloomington, C.B.I.C.R.R., Odin, Tamaroa, Duquoin, Carbondale, Cairo, Jonesboro, mounds, Vincens, Dunleith, Anna, Chicago the Corn city, and Cincinnati the Pork city. An iconic American stoneware form featuring an appealing petite size and exceptional, high-styled Kirkpatrick penmanship. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which descended in the family of the consignor. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. L 6 1/4".
