Outstanding and Possibly Unique Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Flying Eagle and Flag Decoration, Stamped "WEST TROY / N.Y. / POTTERY", circa 1875, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of spread-winged eagle flying above a series of mountains, clutching an American flag in its talons. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark. The first example of West Troy stoneware that we have seen featuring this design, exhibiting vivid color and strong American folk art appeal. Excellent condition with minor crazing to shoulder.
