Exceptional Six-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT.", circa 1855, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a pedestal-based urn with open handles, brimming with flowers, leaves, dotted trails, and curved vines. Decoration is impressive in size, measuring 11" tall x 11" wide along the curve of the churn. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A fine Norton work in all respects. Excellent condition with some shallow chipping to inner rim for lid and a few in-the-firing iron pings to surface. H 19 1/4".
