Unusual Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Crock, Inscribed "April the 10 / 1869" and "S W", Ohio origin, 1869, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with the slip-trailed inscription, "April th 10 / 1869", with the numbers "18" and "69" flanking a graduated, slip-trailed design resembling a cornucopia. This decoration is additionally flanked by the cobalt initials, "S" and "W". Shallow chips to right handle. A minor chip to left handle. Three tiny chips to interior of rim. A faint 2 1/4" Y-shaped surface line under left handle, not visible on interior and probably in-the-firing. Some light iron staining to left side of crock.
