Rare and Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Eagle Decoration, Stenciled "Eagle Pottery", James Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, the front decorated with a large stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle, holding arrows in one foot, and a banner in its beak, inscribed "Eagle Pottery". Decorated above with three freehand cobalt stripes and below with a single freehand stripe. The large size of the eagle motif in comparison to the size of the jar is noteworthy. This jar survives in rarely-found, excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor in-the-firing contact mark to rim. H 9".
