Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Stenciled Cobalt Cow Decoration, Stamped "J.C. WAELDE. / NORTH / BAY", New York State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with stenciled design of a cow, applied with a sponge. Sponged ground below and abstract slip-trailed wavy line decoration to animal's left and right. Slip-trailed "3" with flourish above. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
