Very Rare Two-Gallon Albany-Slip-Decorated Stoneware Epitaph Jug, Inscribed "THE TIME HAS PAST", Stamped "BROWN BROTHER , / HUNTINGTON, / L.I.", New York State origin, circa 1870-1885, cylindrical jug with tapered spout, featuring the slip-trailed Albany slip inscription, "THE TIME HAS PAST", with flourish below. The Brown Brothers epitaph pieces remain the most-sought-after products of their well-known Long Island manufactory. This jug is the first we have seen with an inscription executed in Albany slip. Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. Restored section to underside, extending onto base area on right side of jug. Restoration to spout. A tiny nick to handle. H 13 3/4".
