Fine and Scarce Salt-Glazed Stoneware Pig Flask with Incised and Cobalt-Highlighted Map, Signed and Dated "By Anna Pottery / 1882", Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, 1882, molded in the form of a reclining pig with incised details to face and hooves, hole at rear, and anatomically-correct underside. Surface covered in a light clay slip, with incised and cobalt-highlighted decoration, and overlying salt glaze. One side incised with the inscription "St. Louis the future Great / Railroad and River Guide / By Anna Pottery / with a little good Old Bourbon in a hogs- / 1882". Remainder of pig incised with an elaborate map of the Midwest, including the following landmarks: Dubuke, Miss River, Grand tower, Murphysboro, Jonesboro, Chester, O. & M. R.R., Alton, Springfield, G A & St L. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. L 6 3/4".
