Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Game Bird in Tree Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER, JR. / ROCHESTER, N.Y.", circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a game bird with turned head, large eye, and heavily-feathered body, perched on a tree stump with tall leafy branch ascending to the right. Slip-trailed "6" at shoulder. Lightly-brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some minor surface wear and some very light water glass staining to reverse. H 14 1/8".
