Very Rare Stoneware Gemel with Cobalt Spot and Floral Decorations, probably John Duntze, New Haven, CT, circa 1825, conjoined ovoid jug with tooled spouts and applied strap handle. One jug decorated with a brushed sunflower surrounded by numerous cobalt spots. Other jug decorated with a lightly-brushed floral design also surrounded by spots. Cobalt brushwork at base of spout, between jugs, and spanning the length of the handle. A highly unusual and visually-appealing American stoneware form. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example consigned from the Midwestern U.S. Hairline in middle of handle. Contact marks to jug spouts and handle. Tight vertical surface line to midsection, which appears to be in-the-firing. H 8".
