Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Artistic Cobalt Trotting Deer Decoration, attributed to the Lehman or Macquoid Pottery, New York, New York, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical jar with tall shoulder, tall slightly-flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large brushed design of a trotting deer or elk with oversized antlers, a shrub to the right, and a pine tree in the distance. A finely-executed figural design with strong visual appeal. Restored rim chips. A restored chip to the end of each handle. Crack in end of one handle. A restored base chip on reverse. Large, fairly tight X-shaped crack on reverse. Smaller X-shaped line below right handle. 3 1/4" hairline from rim on left side of jar's front. 3" hairline from rim on reverse. A few very minor base nicks and a 1" surface line at base on reverse.
