Rare Large-Sized Reclining Redware Dog with Applied Coleslaw Fur, PA Origin, circa 1860, spaniel-type dog with raised head and outstretched front legs, reclining on a thick rectangular plinth. Head, chest, upper back, and curled tail, with applied "coleslaw" hair. Brown manganese glazed with overlying clear lead glaze. Maker unknown, though style is similar to items produced by Anthony and Ernestus Bacher in Adams County, PA, and Winchester, VA. A fine example of figural redware. Excellent condition with some base chips. Dog and glaze in remarkable condition. Length 7 1/4".
