Exceptional Two-Gallon Ovoid Pedestal Water Cooler with Incised Double Birds, Stamped "L. & B. G. CHACE / SOMERSET," Mass. Origin, circa 1845-1882, highly ovoid form with handles on a finely thrown, tapering base. Cooler front decorated with facing, incised birds on a pair of branches. Birds decorated with dashed tail and neck patterns, stamped circle eyes, and dash-and-circle decorated wings. Incised design and maker"s mark highlighted in cobalt. Rim and base with blue highlights. Bung hole with four faux screw heads, also with blue touches. Includes antique pewter spigot. Made at the Somerset (Pottersville) pottery of Leonard and Benjamin Chace. Excellent condition. Very thin 2" line from rim. Three-inch line in pedestal. Large base chip. Height 16 1/2".
