Slip-Decorated Redware Canning Jar with Lid, Galena, IL origin, second half 19th century, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and flared rim, the upper portion of the jar with dipped slip decoration, the entire surface covered in a clear lead glaze over a mottled olive-and-orange-colored ground. Includes American 19th century salt-glazed stoneware lid, maker unknown. Provenance: From a long-term private collection of Galena, IL redware consigned to this auction. Nice condition with wear to top of rim and some wear to inner rim for lid. Lid in excellent condition with minor edge wear. H (of jar) 8 1/4".
