One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES.UTICA.", NY State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with fan-shaped tail, perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A shallow, in-the-firing 5/8" surface chip to shoulder. Other minor in-the-firing contact marks to shoulder. Some bubbling of cobalt on tail. A few very minor chips to underside at edge. Some staining.
