Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of an open-handled urn with pedestal base, brimming with large flowers and leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Some restoration around base, including some touch-up to cobalt ground below urn. Two small surface chips to urn. Some later varnish over urn. Some restoration to small, scattered surface flakes to left of decoration. Some very light exfoliation to surface to right of decoration and on reverse. Exfoliation to underside.
