Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Floral Decoration, probably Hartford, CT origin, early 19th century, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motif featuring a central tulip flanked by splayed, scallop-edged leaves. Nicely-incised veining to center of the two larger leaves. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A large, vertical Y-shaped crack on reverse / right side of jug, extending from base to shoulder area. Heavy chipping to base. Some in-the-firing residue to shoulder area.
