Very Rare Ten-Gallon Nashville, TN Stoneware Advertising Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "A. RUSSELL / BEAVER, PA", circa 1875, large-sized, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, the slip-coated surface featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising for the Tennessee merchant, "TURNER BRO'S / GROCERS / NASHVILLE". Large brushed fuchsia vine motif above. Shoulder impressed with A. RUSSELL maker's mark above a ten-gallon capacity mark. Exceptional size and desirable Southern advertising. Cracks to underside, front, and reverse. A tiny nick to interior of rim and minor wear to inner rim for lid. H 20 1/2".
