Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar, Stenciled "EXCELSIOR WORKS / Isaac Hewitt, Jr. / RICES LANDING, PA.", circa 1875, tall cylindrical jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and inner "wax sealer" rim, featuring diagonal Isaac Hewitt, Jr. stenciling with a stenciled flourish at center. Provenance: Collection of Harry Meyer, McDonald, PA. A small surface chip / contact mark to side of jar. A 7/8" x 1 1/8" inverted U-shaped surface crack to rim. Small chips to exterior and interior of rim. A few small chips to inner wax sealer rim. H 8 7/8".
