Stoneware Canning with Elaborate Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder flared "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a vertical stripe flanked by graduated horizontal brushstrokes, a motif resembling a leaf or Christmas tree. Shoulder and base with freehand horizontal stripes. Superb decoration. Very nice condition with some bubbling to cobalt, particularly at base, a small chip to interior of rim, and a minor nick to interior of rim. H 8".
