Unusual One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Inscribed "G N Fulton", Alleghany County, VA, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and flattened rim, decorated with a curved flowering vine bearing elliptical blossoms embellished with spots flanking a stripe. Additional freehand foliate motifs surrounding the vine. Base inscribed with the cobalt-script signature, "G N Fulton", underscored by a series of cobalt spots. A 3" hairline from rim on reverse. A burn at base on front.
