Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J.M. HICKERSON / STRASBURG / VIRGINIA" with Star, circa 1890, ovoid pitcher with flared base and tall, flaring collar, the front decorated with a brushed hanging floral motif flanked by graduated swags. Collar decorated on each side with a stylized flower blossom. Impressed on shoulder with the rare circular maker's mark, "J.M. HICKERSON / STRASBURG / VIRGINIA", surrounding a star. Provenance: Collection of Harry Meyer, McDonald, PA. A restored chip on underside with restored crack extending from it onto base. This crack then continues horizontally on the front of the pitcher, ultimately forming a horizontal Y on left side of pitcher, with half of the Y remaining at base, and the other half extending upward onto body of pitcher.
