Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "W.H. LEHEW & CO / STRASBURG, VA," circa 1870, ovoid pitcher with flared base and rounded rim, decorated around the midsection and collar with a series of cobalt swags and hanging flowers. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Front impressed with William H. Lehew maker's mark featuring backwards S's, below a two-gallon capacity mark. Desirable large size and strong decoration. 3" Y-shaped crack at base, continuing onto underside and forming another Y there. Two base chips. Three rim chips. H 13 3/4".
