Rare Glazed Redware Handled Jar, Stamped "I. BELL", John Bell, Waynesboro, PA, circa 1840, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and applied handle with thumb rest on reverse. Surface covered in a speckled reddish-brown lead-and-manganese glaze. Front of jar impressed with the early John Bell maker's mark, "I. BELL". This jar is the first of its kind by John Bell that we have ever offered. Light wear to rim and handle. Minor surface wear. A thin 2 1/4" crack from rim on side of jar. H 6 5/8".
