Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "VAN SCHOIK & DUNN / Makers, / Middletown Point, N.J.", circa 1853-1870, cylindrical jar with sloped shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of two-stemmed flowering plant flanking a freehand "3". Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. A tight 2 1/4" crack on underside, which continues up body of jar on reverse forming a Y. One part of this Y extends horizontally onto side of jar, below handle, where it forms a second Y. A vertical 6 1/2" line to far right side of jar's front. Base chips. Two minor chips to interior of rim.
