Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA", VA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front with a large slip-trailed design of flowering plant bearing eight blossoms. Reverse decorated with three tulips extending around the shoulder. Exceptionally large size for this maker, exhibiting strong slip-trailed decoration. A very large plaster-filled section to reverse/base. Additional significant cracks throughout.
