Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with semi-rounded and tooled accents to body and shoulder, the front decorated with a large freehand cobalt "2" flanked by dashes, below a series of three foliate motifs. A 4 3/4" x 2 3/4" reglued section at base, connecting to a gray-painted Y-shaped crack on underside. An approximately 6" long, tight spider crack to shoulder area.
